Sam's reaction to seeing his parents was absolutely beautiful. I loved the way he kept staring at Mary and wouldn't let go of John's hand. Poor boy. :(

Another thing I felt was important about this episode is that Cas stood by SAM. Cas has never really had much interaction with Sam and has point-blank blamed Sam. Yet here we have Cas calling Sam his friend and even assuring/comforting Sam by telling him that his death would not help.

YES. I've been waiting all season for that moment! I thought his "You are not taking Sam Winchester... I won't let you" in 5x10 was as good as we were going to get, so Cas actually saying outright that "Sam is my friend" completely blew me away. And Sam was so concerned for Cas every time he collapsed, aww. They're finally becoming buddies! (Although Sam still doesn't know it was Cas who let him out of the panic room...)

I have to admit, I was pretty ticked off by Anna especially since she kept saying "I'm sorry" right before she tried to kill everyone. I mean really? After everything she preached to Cas???

I actually loved that moment. Anna didn't WANT to kill these people... she seemed to have real feelings for Dean, after all. She just felt that it was the only way. Kind of like when Cas was about to kill Jesse... it was breaking his heart, but he felt it was the only way to stop him from killing all the angels. The outcome of that experience seemed to be what changed Cas, and he started thinking more like Sam and Dean after that. Anna never got that chance. I thought it was sad. She was still fighting on their side, but doing the dirty work she felt they were too loyal to their family to do, you know?

Guh, I loved this episode.

I loved this epi so much...I had to rewatch it immediately and then I watched the scenes with Sam/John and Mary/Dean over again-the actors just nailed these pivotal scenes and your heart just breaks...

What I did find interesting or was wondering about...Uriel shows up with a young body ( well it is 30 Y earlier) so does that mean the vessels ages while taken by an Angel...or is our 2009 vessel another ....I mean there cannot be lots of vessels running around?

Another observation...the actor playing Michael/John changed his voice and the way he walked in/held himself...thought that sl. wide eyed look with head tilted sl. back ( emphasized by camera angle from below) reminded me very much of Cas ( Misha's choices of portraying an Angel) but then there is more animation in Michael and gezz I had that flash of 'Dexter' benelovent serial killer :P the way he shushes Mary, trying to come across all caring but dangerous as a Cobra about to strike, a degree of madness that just gave you the creeps. Being number one Angel with everybody (angels) looking up to him, calling the shots and being told how he is the one to stop Lucifer(=apocalypse) has definitely screwed with Michael's head- Angel on a power high!
The certainty in Michael and Lucifer about the path they are willing to take with no care any another options just speaks of pure madness...
Michael (and Lucifer) definitely needs some humility and I hope the Winchester brothers will be the ones to teach him!

Wow. Seriously? That's cold. I didn't hate her, I didn't love her either but I don't think I've ever laughed at anyone or anything dying.

Ya I just never really liked the character, she kinda seemed forced a lot and I kinda saw her as a Mary-Sue type of character (which in my RP days I have seen WAY to many of) and when she kicked the bucket I knew it was only a matter of time, mind you the girl who they got to play Anna - gorgeous !
I blame my friend on the laughing part, she started singing 'ding-dong the b*tch is dead'

Any person can be a vessel. Dean and Sam often call them "meatsuits" but they are technically vessels. The difference is that the more powerful beings such as Michael and Lucifer have "true" vessels - ones who will not deteriorate by their possession. The angels often ask for permission to possess someone but I don't think it's a requirement. I could be wrong, but this is how I've interpreted it.

Didn't really know where to post this but

Young JDM vs. Matt Cohen (Young!John)

I can see the resemblance now, especially after 5x13.

BUT someone mentioned that he reminds them of Castiel/Misha, and I really see that too!

Maybe it's the spiky hair? LOL

It never occurred to them ... that sure, maybe they never really had a roof and four walls ... but they were never, in fact, homeless.

Hi Crystal !
:? SO , I thought only 'special people' could be vessels-didn't Cas/Jimmy say that's why his daughter was chosen as vessel-genetics...and obviously she was okay after he left :?
And Rafael went back into his original vessel instead of just using another ( glad he recycles  ) meatsuit....mh...

I think Uriel was using the same person as his vessel. For this eppy the person that's Uriel's is 30 yrs younger. Michael sent Uriel back to heaven, so his vessel went back to just being a person who ages for 30 yrs. before becoming Uriel's vessel again.

You could be completely right. I haven't put much thought into it. I take things like this at face value and move on.

Hi,

Okay, I haven't been around here in FOREVER, but I had to comment on this episode because it's been one of the few I have actually enjoyed this season. I don't like this season at all. It's gotten me to the point of almost not watching the show anymore, but when I heard they did another one about John and Mary, I had to watch it.

In a nutshell, I really enjoyed this one. I didn't like that Anna died because I really liked her character, but I did like that they didn't actually have her go evil or anything. She actually thought she was doing the right thing and was apologizing over and over again, so I can take some solace in that. Still, I really liked her, so it will be a shame not to see her again. LOVED when Dean told Mary who he was. I was bawling like a baby through that scene and the one where Sam was talking to John. Both were really well done. I hated when Michael wiped their memories. I was just like "Come on! Are they going to be able to save their parents EVER???" I mean, I know it would be the end of the show as we know it, but the characters REALLY deserve it. :D

I probably won't be back for a while (school end in April - HOORAY!), but I wanted to share my thoughts.
